House of 1000 Corpses

So here is a movie that I've wanted to talk about for a while now. The first time I watched this movie, I nearly fell asleep. Others watching the movie with me, however, were too disturbed to complete the film, particularly at the scene where a character appears, carved into a fish. We had to stop the movie entirely and send it back! Eventually, we worked the courage up again to view the movie in its entirety.

What makes this film scary is its use of disturbing imagery and psychotic characters. The "bad guys" and their home, which houses 1000 corpses, is similar to the ultimate haunted house. However, some may find this movie as being too weird to take seriously, and more hilarious than scary since the story and characters appear unreal and exaggerated at times. As it really depends on the person, to give this movie a scare-rating is difficult. In my opinion, I would rate House of 1000 Corpses 8/10. It's insanely weird, and something that only Rob Zombie could come up with. This movie made me a fan of his other films as well, which I must give him credit for. What's interesting is originally, Universal Studios was supposed to release the film, but due to fear of having to rate the film NC-17, they decided not to release it. Lions Gate Entertainment picked it up, thankfully.

Here's the trailer:

And here's a sample scene that you can view on YouTube. Warning: heavy graphic violence.
