28 Days Later (2002) Movie Review

So AMC has been showing horror movies all day for a little while now. Today and Friday night, I saw 28 Days Later showing. This is actually a great zombie movie that does a good job at being scary. It starts off great, with our main character Jim, played by Cillian Murphy, waking up in a hospital bed and no one around. After getting a snack, he wanders, looking for any sign of civilization. He doesn't like what he finds!

The zombies differ from other zombie movies in that they run fast, and are actually pretty scary. Not only that, the characterization is done quite well. One of the main characters is a woman and can definetely kick zombie butt. She's smart, cautious, and fully capable, unlikes the typical "ditzy girl" in many horror movies you see today. There's also a father and his daughter trying to make it out alive. These characters grow on you as the movie progresses, pulling you deeper into their struggles. Also, the atmosphere of the film has a tone that sets you on edge, but it doesn't forget to take a break and contrast the bleak world with some beauty and hope for the future. If you enjoy creepy atmospheres, raging killer zombies, and a bit of drama on the side, I recommend this movie to you. On a "scare-meter", i'd give it a 7/10, just watch it late at night in the dark!
